There are certainly many cases where using social media has gone awry in health care cases.  However, when handled correctly, you can actually use social media, marketing, and HIPAA in a sentence without getting chills down your spine.  Today, Janet Kennedy joins us for a discussion on the positive reasons you should be active on social media and the precautions you should take to make sure everything stays in a positive light.

The bottom line is patients must give permission for you to mention them on social media.  Most importantly, a social media policy shouldn’t supersede your HR policies about the work environment, professional behavior and how to represent the company.  Train your staff that all of it applies when posting online.

Online communications means using social media in one way or another these days.  All businesses need to be active in some way.  You may be promoting your products or your location.  Others may be making sure they are recognized as though leaders in their field.  No matter how you look at it there is some way that most of us need to establish ourselves and our business online.  However, there are plenty of things that must be evaluated and addressed before you just jump out on a platform and start sharing.  Take the time to understand the best uses of social media marketing and HIPAA requirements at the same time.
